Schedule Instagram posts and reels in one calendar

Updated: September 2026

ReelDrop schedules Instagram posts, reels, and carousels from one calendar and publishes them through the official Instagram API instead of pinging your phone with a reminder. It's built for creators and small teams who would rather batch a week of content in one sitting than post live every single day.

Connect your Instagram account

You link your Instagram account once through the official API, and from then on ReelDrop does the actual publishing. Nobody gets a reminder notification, and nobody is pasting captions out of a notes app at 6 pm.

Compose the post

Upload your media, write the caption or generate one with AI, and add the extras: hashtags, a location, and up to three collaborators. A live preview shows the post the way Instagram will render it.

Pick a time and let it publish

Choose a date and time, hit schedule, and move on. When the slot arrives, ReelDrop publishes automatically and shows you the result. The free Starter tier covers one account with unlimited scheduling and posting, same as the Creator plan.

Set posting slots once, reuse them all month

If you post at the same times every week, picking a date from a calendar for every single post gets old fast. Set your posting days and time slots in settings, and ReelDrop offers the next open slot when you schedule, so queueing a post becomes one click instead of a decision. Post now and pick a custom time are still right there for anything that doesn't fit the routine.

What happens at publish time

The earliest you can schedule is five minutes from now, which quietly prevents the classic mistake of scheduling a post into the past. When the slot arrives, ReelDrop publishes through the API and the post appears on your calendar with its status, so you can confirm it went out without opening Instagram. One boundary worth knowing: Instagram allows 100 API-published posts per account in any 24-hour window. No normal posting schedule gets anywhere near that, but if you run high-volume accounts, that's the real ceiling.

Schedule Instagram reels with cover selection

Reels go through the same composer as everything else, with two extra steps that matter. Drop the video in and ReelDrop offers thumbnail frames from the video itself, so you can pick a cover that does not catch you mid-blink, or keep Instagram's own auto-generated cover. There is no way to pull an arbitrary frame after the fact, so the choice is made here rather than in the app afterwards.

The other reel-specific settings are the ones Instagram gives you when posting by hand: whether viewers can comment, and whether they can remix. Set them in the composer and they publish with the reel. A live preview shows how the reel sits in the feed before you commit to a slot.

9:16 is the safe aspect ratio. If you are not sure your export is right, the free aspect ratio checker tells you before you upload rather than after Instagram rejects the media. Reels are supported on every plan, including the free Starter tier, and scheduling them is unlimited.

This is also where trial reels come in. A trial reel goes only to people who do not follow you, which is a cheap way to test a hook without spending it on your own audience. Starter includes 3 trial reels a month; Influencer and Creator make them unlimited, and ReelDrop tracks how each one did.

Schedule the first comment with the post

The first comment field sits next to the caption in the composer. Type the hashtags you want tucked out of the caption, or a question to get replies started, and ReelDrop posts it through the official API at the same moment the post publishes. Nobody has to race back to their phone to comment.

If the comment fails for any reason, the post still publishes and the comment error is recorded rather than taking the post down with it. That order is deliberate: a missing first comment is an annoyance, a missing post is the whole job.

It is a normal comment, so it does not have to be hashtags. A question, a link mention, a disclaimer, the context that did not fit the caption. Putting 15 tags in the first comment mostly buys readability; the evidence on whether comment hashtags change reach is mixed, so treat it as formatting rather than a growth trick. First-comment scheduling is included on the Influencer and Creator plans.

Batch a week on Sunday night

A fitness creator films four reels on Saturday, then spends an hour on Sunday uploading them, picking captions from the AI suggestions, and spreading them across the week. Monday through Thursday post themselves while she is at the gym with clients.

Keep a small brand consistent

A two-person coffee brand schedules the month in one afternoon: product shots, a carousel about their new roast, a reel from the roastery. Nobody has to remember to post on the day a shipment goes wrong.

A launch week, scheduled on Sunday

A personal finance creator is releasing a budgeting template on Friday. Sunday night she schedules the whole run: a teaser reel for Monday at 6 pm, a carousel on the mistakes the template fixes for Wednesday, the announcement post for Friday at noon, and a follow-up for Saturday morning. The scheduling takes about fifteen minutes. During launch week she answers questions and watches sales instead of setting phone alarms for posting times.

Film reels once, post them all week

A cooking creator records three recipes in a single kitchen session, picks a cover frame for each one in the composer, and schedules them for Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. The kitchen gets cleaned once. The feed looks like she cooks every other day, and she is not uploading a reel over hotel wifi at five minutes to nine.

Hashtags out of the caption, into the first comment

A designer keeps her captions to two tight lines and moves all 15 hashtags to the scheduled first comment. The post reads like a sentence instead of a search index, and the tags still get posted. A podcast account does the same thing for a different reason: every episode clip goes out with a first comment asking a question about the topic, so early viewers reply to the comment instead of scrolling past.

Scheduling by plan

Scheduling and posting are unlimited on every plan, including the free one. What the plans actually gate is the extras around the post.

Frequently asked questions

Does ReelDrop actually publish the post, or just remind me?

It publishes. ReelDrop uses the official Instagram API to auto-publish at the scheduled time. You don't need to be near your phone.

Is it safe to connect my Instagram account to ReelDrop?

Yes. ReelDrop is a Meta Tech Provider and connects through Instagram's own login screen with scoped permissions. We never see your password, and you can revoke access anytime in your Instagram settings. The risky pattern is any tool that asks for your actual password; no official integration ever does.

What does the free plan include?

The free Starter tier includes one Instagram account, unlimited scheduling and posting, reels and carousel support, Instagram analytics, and 3 AI captions a month. AI carousel images and reel thumbnails are Creator-only.

Can I schedule reels and carousels as well as single images?

Yes. Reels and carousels are supported on every plan, including the free Starter tier.

Does ReelDrop work with other platforms besides Instagram?

No. ReelDrop is Instagram-only by design. If you need TikTok and LinkedIn in the same tool, a general scheduler is a better fit.

When can I start using it?

Right now. Sign up free at reeldrop.io and start scheduling immediately. Paid plans start with Influencer at $9.99 a month ($79 a year); Creator is $29 a month, with founding pricing at $149 a year or $249 once.

Can I choose the reel cover?

Yes. The composer suggests thumbnail frames from your video and you pick one before scheduling, or you keep Instagram's own auto-generated cover. There is no way to extract an arbitrary frame later, so this is the moment to decide.

Which plans include first-comment scheduling?

Influencer and Creator. The free Starter tier schedules the post but not the comment that goes with it.

What are trial reels?

A reel shown only to accounts that do not follow you, which makes it a cheap way to test a hook. Starter includes 3 a month; Influencer and Creator are unlimited, and ReelDrop tracks how each one performed.

What aspect ratio should my reel be?

9:16. If you are unsure whether your export is right, the free aspect ratio checker will tell you before you upload rather than after Instagram rejects the media.

Do scheduled posts get less reach?

There's no evidence they do. A post published through the official API is a normal post; Instagram doesn't label it as scheduled or treat it differently. When a scheduled post flops, the usual culprits are a dead posting hour or a weak hook, and both of those would have sunk the post if you'd published it live.

Is there a daily limit on auto-published posts?

Instagram's API allows up to 100 API-published posts per account in a 24-hour window. Almost nobody touches that ceiling. Scheduling itself is unlimited on every ReelDrop plan, so that API ceiling is the only cap in play.

What if a scheduled post fails to publish?

It can happen, usually because the Instagram connection expired or the media didn't meet Instagram's specs. A failed post shows up as failed on your calendar rather than quietly disappearing, so you can fix the connection and retry.

How far ahead can I schedule?

The earliest slot is five minutes from now. In the other direction there's no meaningful restriction; if you want to map a whole month the way the coffee brand above does, the calendar will take it.
