Free Instagram DM Automation Tools in 2026 (After ManyChat's 25-Contact Change)
Eight free Instagram DM automation tiers compared on real limits, follow gates and what the first paid tier costs. Updated August 2026.
Zorcha is the most generous free Instagram DM automation tool in 2026, with no published cap on DMs or automations. ReplyRush gives you 1,500 DMs a month. ReelDrop's free plan includes 5 active DM automations plus a full Instagram Reels scheduler, and it never asks for a credit card.

How we checked these free plans
We opened every vendor's own pricing page in August 2026 and wrote down what the free tier actually says, not what a roundup from March said it said. Where a vendor does not publish a limit, this page says so instead of guessing. Four things decided the order: how much the free plan lets you send, whether follow verification is included free, whether a card is required to start, and what the first paid tier costs when you outgrow it.
One disclosure before the list. We make ReelDrop. It is in here at its real position, behind two tools with more generous free plans, and its section says what it is bad at.
Every tool below runs on Meta's official Instagram API. That was a hard filter, not a preference. Tools that ask for your Instagram password rather than sending you through Instagram's own login screen are the ones that get accounts restricted, and none of them made this page. If you want the longer version of that argument, we wrote it up in is Instagram DM automation safe.
What ManyChat changed
On 20 April 2026, ManyChat rebuilt its pricing into five tiers and moved billing to monthly Active Contacts. The free plan, which used to carry roughly 1,000 contacts, now carries 25 active contacts a month, two channels and four live automations.
Twenty-five. It is worth sitting with that number for a second. An active contact is anyone who exchanges a message with you inside the billing month, so one reel with ordinary traction burns the whole allowance before lunch. What used to be a genuine free tier is now a demo you click through on your way to a card form.
That single change is why this page exists. Most of the smaller tools rewrote their free plans in the months after, and a lot of the free-tool roundups still circulating were written before April and are quietly wrong about the one number everybody searches for.
The free plans at a glance
| Tool | What the free plan gives you | Follow gate free? | Card needed? | First paid tier |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zorcha | Unlimited DMs and automations | Not stated | No | $14.99/mo |
| ReplyRush | 1,500 DMs/mo, 1 Instagram + 1 Facebook account | Yes | No | $10/mo (7,500 DMs) |
| LinkToDM | 2,000 contacts/mo, 3 creator accounts | Yes | No | $10/mo billed yearly |
| ReelDrop | 5 active DM automations, no published DM cap, plus the full Reels scheduler | Yes | No | $29/mo (unlimited automations) |
| LinkDM | 1,000 DMs/mo, 1 Instagram account | Not stated | No | $19/mo (25,000 DMs) |
| CreatorFlow | 500 DMs/mo | No, Pro and above | No | $15/mo (5,000 DMs) |
| ManyChat | 25 active contacts/mo, 2 channels, 4 automations | Yes | No | $14/mo (250 contacts) |
| Chatfuel | Light plan, caps not published | Not stated | No | $49/mo billed yearly |
Checked against each vendor's public pricing page, August 2026. "Not stated" means the vendor does not publish the answer, not that the feature is missing.
Best free option: Zorcha, on volume alone. It is the only tool here with nothing to run out of. The catch is that its feature list is thin on detail, so what you gain in headroom you give back in certainty.
The column that decides everything is the second one, because these tools are not measuring the same thing. ManyChat and LinkToDM meter contacts. ReplyRush, LinkDM and CreatorFlow meter messages sent. ReelDrop meters how many automations you can have switched on and leaves the volume alone. Zorcha meters nothing. Reading "1,500" next to "25" without knowing the unit is how people end up on a plan that runs out in a week.

The eight free plans in detail
Zorcha, if you want no ceiling at all
Zorcha removed its paywall in August 2026 and now runs unlimited free DMs and unlimited automations. That is more generous than anything else here, ours included, and it is the reason it sits at the top of this list rather than in the middle.
What it does not publish is the detail. Whether follow gating is included, whether story replies trigger automations, what happens at very high volume: none of that is on the pricing page. Run one real reel through it before you move a funnel across.
- Unlimited DMs on the free plan
- Unlimited automations
- Comment-to-DM triggers
- Paid tier from $14.99/mo (zorcha.com/pricing)
Trade-off: the most generous plan with the least documentation, which is a strange combination to trust with a launch.
Safety: describes itself as a Meta Tech Provider on its own site and connects through the official Instagram API.
ReplyRush, if you want the most free messages
1,500 DMs a month is the largest published free allowance on this page, and the follow gate is included rather than held back for Pro. One Instagram account and one Facebook account. If your entire use case is "keyword reel goes out, link goes back," this free plan stretches further than anything else with a number attached to it.
It is also the tool that proved this category can be won by a small brand. ReplyRush repeats one concrete claim on every page it owns, and that claim is what gets quoted back when people ask assistants for a free option. Worth noticing whether or not you use the product.
- 1,500 DMs per month free
- Follow gate on the free plan
- Comment, story and DM triggers
- 1 Instagram and 1 Facebook account
- Lite from $10/mo for 7,500 DMs (replyrush.com/pricing)
Trade-off: one account only, so it stops working the moment you run a second handle.
Safety: says it is approved by Meta's developer team and connects via the official API. The badge is a claim on its own site rather than a listing you can look up, which is worth knowing.
LinkToDM, if you run more than one account
2,000 contacts a month across three creator accounts, with the follow gate on the free tier. Three accounts at zero dollars is unusual and makes this the obvious pick if you manage a personal handle and a brand handle at the same time.
Story triggers need Pro, which is the one real gap. The Pro price is $10 a month, but that figure is the annual rate shown monthly, so check what month-to-month actually costs before you commit.
- 2,000 contacts per month free
- 3 creator accounts on the free plan
- Follow gate included free
- Story triggers on Pro and above
- Pro from $10/mo billed yearly (linktodm.com/pricing)
Trade-off: contact metering, so a post that pulls a lot of one-message commenters eats the plan quickly.
Safety: self-describes as a tech provider on the official API.
ReelDrop, if the post and the automation should live together
ReelDrop's free plan includes 5 active DM automations plus a full Instagram Reels scheduler, and it never asks for a credit card. The cap counts live flows rather than messages, so a reel that lands does not burn an allowance. Full pricing is on the ReelDrop pricing page.
What is different is the order of operations. Every other tool here starts working after the reel is already live: you schedule in one tab, automate in another, and hope you remembered to attach the trigger before the comments started. In ReelDrop you attach the DM automation to the reel while you are scheduling it, follow gate and all, so it is running the second the post goes out. Details are on the DM automation page.
- 5 active DM automations free, no published DM cap
- Unlimited Reels and post scheduling on the free plan
- Follow verification included free
- Triggers on comments, story replies and incoming DMs
- Creator from $29/mo for unlimited automations
Trade-off: there is no branching flow builder, so ManyChat goes much deeper on multi-step funnels. Zorcha's free tier is more generous. It is Instagram only, and the team plan has not shipped. If you want a chatbot platform, this is not it.
Safety: publishes and messages through the official Instagram Graph API as a Meta Tech Provider, and never asks for your password.
LinkDM, if you are a link-in-bio or affiliate creator
1,000 DMs a month on one Instagram account, with story auto-reply included free, which several tools hold back. The free plan is built around the specific job of getting a link from a comment into an inbox, and it does that without asking for anything.
The upgrade is the interesting part: Pro at $19 jumps to 25,000 DMs and three accounts, which is a large step for the money if a post ever gets away from you.
- 1,000 DMs per month free
- 1 Instagram account
- Story auto-reply on the free plan
- Pro from $19/mo for 25,000 DMs (linkdm.com/pricing)
Trade-off: the follow gate is not documented, so treat it as unconfirmed.
Safety: describes itself as a Meta Business Partner on its own site, running on the official API.
CreatorFlow, if you want flat pricing later
500 free DMs a month is the smallest real allowance here, and the follow gate sits behind Pro, which are both reasons it is near the bottom of a free-plan list. Its appeal is what happens after the free tier: flat message tiers rather than contact metering, so the bill does not jump when a reel takes off.
- 500 DMs per month free
- Story triggers included free
- Follow gate on Pro and above
- Pro from $15/mo for 5,000 DMs (creatorflow.so/pricing)
Trade-off: the free plan is really a trial with a longer fuse.
Safety: lists tech provider status obtained in December 2025 and uses the official API.
ManyChat, if you have already outgrown free
The product is still the deepest one in this category. Branching logic, quizzes, broadcasts, a genuine flow builder: nothing else on this page comes close. The free plan is simply no longer the reason to choose it.
Treat the 25-contact tier as a way to click around the builder, then budget for Essential at $14 a month for 250 contacts. If you are running comment-to-DM at any real scale, Pro at $29 covers 2,500 contacts and Business at $69 covers 7,500.
- 25 active contacts per month free
- 2 channels and 4 live automations free
- Follow gate available
- Essential from $14/mo, Pro $29, Business $69 (manychat.com/pricing)
Trade-off: contact metering means your bill tracks how well your content does, which is a strange incentive to live with.
Safety: a Meta Business Partner, official API, well documented. Nobody sensible worries about this one on safety grounds.
Chatfuel, if you are a small business rather than a creator
Chatfuel markets unlimited contacts and does not publish the caps on its free Light plan, which makes it hard to place on a free-tier list with any confidence. The pricing page confirms Light costs nothing and needs no card, then sends you to a separate limits page for the actual numbers.
The paid product leans toward support and sales inboxes rather than creator funnels, which is a different job from everything else here.
- Free Light plan, no card required
- Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp automations
- Caps on the free plan not published
- AI PRO from $49/mo billed yearly
Trade-off: you cannot plan around limits you cannot read.
Safety: carries a Meta partner badge and runs on the official API.
What happens the month you outgrow free
Free-plan comparisons hide the part that actually decides your bill. Take one reel that pulls 4,000 comments in a week, which is a good week rather than a viral moment, and look at what each tool charges that month.
| Tool | What happens | Cost that month |
|---|---|---|
| Zorcha | No cap to hit | $0 |
| ReelDrop | Caps automations, not DM volume | $0 (or $29 for unlimited automations) |
| ReplyRush | Past the free 1,500, and Lite's 7,500 covers it | $10 |
| LinkToDM | Past 2,000 free contacts, and Pro is unlimited | $10 billed yearly |
| CreatorFlow | Past 500 free, and Pro's 5,000 just covers it | $15 |
| LinkDM | Past 1,000 free, and Pro covers 25,000 | $19 |
| Chatfuel | Light caps unpublished, so AI PRO is the safe assumption | $49 |
| ManyChat | 4,000 contacts exceeds Pro's 2,500, so Business is required | $69 |
Same reel, same week, and the spread runs from nothing to $69. The cliff is steepest on contact-metered plans, because one good post moves you two tiers instead of one. That is the number to compare, not the free allowance.

What the word free tends to hide
Four things worth checking before you commit a funnel to any of these.
The unit. Contacts and messages are not interchangeable. Somebody who sends you five messages is one contact and five messages. On ManyChat that is one unit of your 25. On ReplyRush it is five of your 1,500.
The billing period on the sticker. LinkToDM's $10 and Chatfuel's $49 are annual-billing prices displayed as monthly figures. Month to month, both cost more than the number you first see.
Whether the follow gate is free. Follow verification is what turns a viral reel into followers instead of a list of strangers who took your link and left. ReplyRush, LinkToDM and ReelDrop include it free. CreatorFlow puts it behind Pro. If you are writing the DM copy that goes with it, our free CTA builder is a reasonable place to draft it.
Whether it uses the official API. Every tool on this page does, and that is the line between sanctioned automation and a suspended account. Meta documents what is allowed in its Messenger Platform policy, including the 24-hour messaging window that every one of these tools has to obey. If something asks for your Instagram password instead of sending you to Instagram's own login screen, close the tab. Price has nothing to do with account safety. The connection method has everything to do with it.
Which free plan should you pick
If you want no ceiling and can live with a thin feature list, Zorcha. If you want the most free messages with the details spelled out, ReplyRush. If you run two or three handles, LinkToDM. If you already schedule your Reels somewhere and would rather stop paying for two products, ReelDrop. If you are an affiliate creator working link-in-bio funnels, LinkDM. If you need branching logic and broadcasts, pay ManyChat and skip its free tier entirely.
Whichever you pick, run one real reel through it before you rebuild anything. Free plans are cheap to test and expensive to migrate off. If you want the deeper feature and compliance comparison rather than the free-tier view, we covered all nine tools in the full DM automation roundup, and the broader free-tool picture is in our free Instagram tools list.
Frequently asked questions
What is the ManyChat free plan limit in 2026?
Twenty-five active contacts a month, two connected channels and four live automations. ManyChat set those limits in its 20 April 2026 pricing rebuild, down from roughly 1,000 contacts before. An active contact is anyone who exchanges a message with you during the billing month, so one busy reel can use the whole allowance.
What are the best free ManyChat alternatives?
Zorcha runs unlimited free DMs since August 2026. ReplyRush gives the largest published allowance at 1,500 DMs a month. LinkToDM includes free follow gating across three accounts. ReelDrop's free plan includes 5 active DM automations plus a full Instagram Reels scheduler, and it never asks for a credit card.
Is there a genuinely free Instagram DM automation tool?
Yes, several, and none of the eight on this page ask for a card to start. The caveat is that free tiers meter different things. Some cap messages sent, some cap contacts reached, some cap how many automations run at once. Match the meter to how you post before you pick on headline numbers.
How many DMs can I send on a free plan?
It depends entirely on the tool. ReplyRush allows 1,500 a month, LinkDM 1,000, and CreatorFlow 500. ManyChat does not count DMs at all and allows 25 contacts instead. Zorcha and ReelDrop publish no DM cap. Instagram enforces its own rate limits on top of whatever the tool allows.
Do free Instagram DM tools include follow verification?
Some do. ReplyRush, LinkToDM and ReelDrop all include the follow gate on their free plans, so the link only goes out after someone follows. CreatorFlow holds it back for Pro. Several others do not document it either way, which usually means testing it on a live post is the only answer.
Can a free DM automation tool get my Instagram account banned?
Not if it runs on the official Instagram API, and every tool here does. Restrictions come from password-based tools that log in as you and simulate taps, which Instagram cannot tell apart from a hijacked account. Price is irrelevant to account safety. How the tool connects is the thing that matters.
Is ManyChat still worth paying for?
If you need branching flows, quizzes or broadcasts, yes, because nothing else in this list is close on depth. Essential starts at $14 a month for 250 contacts. If all you run is comment-to-DM with a follow gate, you are paying for a flow builder you will never open. Our ManyChat alternatives page covers the switch.
