ManyChat cut its free plan from 1,000 contacts to 25 Active Contacts a month on 2 March 2026, and paid plans now start at $14. ReplyRush and ReelDrop are the cheapest swaps, Chatfuel the closest like-for-like one. ReelDrop is the pick if you also schedule content, because ManyChat has never published posts at all.
Nobody leaves ManyChat because the automation is bad. It is an official Meta partner, the keyword triggers and comment-to-DM flows work, and most of the comment SHOP to get the link campaigns you have seen ran on it. What changed is the price of finding that out. Until March 2026 you could sit on the free plan with up to 1,000 contacts more or less forever. The new free plan gives you 25 Active Contacts a month, four live automations, two connected channels, and ManyChat branding on the first message you send.
Read ManyChat's definition of an Active Contact before you panic or relax. It counts one person once per billing month no matter how many times they message you, and the tally resets each cycle. So 25 is not 25 people ever, it is 25 conversations a month. One Reel that lands can burn through that before dinner, which is the part that stings: the bill arrives at the exact moment something works. ManyChat's help centre also says the new plans apply to accounts created on or after 2 March 2026, with migration for older accounts still pending, so a free account you opened last year may still be running on the old terms.
Why people look for ManyChat alternatives
- The free plan is 25 Active Contacts a month now, down from 1,000. That is a testing tier, not a running-your-business tier.
- Pricing meters people, not usage. Essential covers 250 Active Contacts at $14 a month and Pro covers 2,500 at $29, so one good week can push you up a tier.
- It only does messaging. Scheduling, captions, planning: all of that still needs a second tool, sometimes a third.
- The free tier puts Powered by Manychat on your first message, which is an odd thing to hand a stranger who just commented on your Reel.
- The flow builder is genuinely powerful, which becomes the problem when all you wanted was one comment-to-DM reply and you are staring at funnel machinery.
- Flows live in ManyChat's editor and nowhere else. Leaving means rebuilding every one by hand.
What each tool actually charges for
The tools here meter completely different things, which is why cheaper than ManyChat is a harder claim than it looks. ManyChat counts the people who talk to you. ReplyRush counts the DMs you send. ReelDrop counts how many automations you have switched on. Whichever unit matches the shape of your account is the one that will feel cheap, and whichever one does not will feel like a trap about six weeks in.

- If a handful of posts drive most of your DMs, ManyChat Essential at $14 is still the cheapest way to keep the flow builder you already know.
- If your DM volume is high but your automations are few, ReplyRush's free 1,500 DMs a month is the most generous starting point on this list.
- Chatfuel matches ManyChat feature for feature more closely than anything else here, but AI Pro is $49 a month. Nobody switches to it to save money.
- If you pay for a scheduler on top of ManyChat, add the two bills together before comparing anything. That combined number is usually what actually makes people switch.

Switching away from ManyChat
- Check which pricing you are actually on. ManyChat says the March 2026 plans apply to accounts created on or after 2 March, with migration for older accounts pending, so your free account may not have been cut yet. Your billing page settles it.
- Work out your real Active Contact number for a normal month. If you sit well under 25 you have no problem to solve; if a single launch triples it, you know which tier you are heading for.
- Document every live flow: triggers, keywords, replies, and links. Screenshots of the flow builder are the fastest record you can make, and there is no export.
- Rank those flows by results. Most accounts find one or two comment-to-DM automations drive nearly everything, which shrinks the rebuild dramatically.

ManyChat has no post publishing. Not a limited version of it, none: the automations fire on posts you published somewhere else. So if you run ManyChat today you are already paying two bills, and the honest comparison is ManyChat plus your scheduler against whatever replaces both.
