ReelDrop for ecommerce

Updated: September 2026

A product drop is a timing problem. The announcement has to land at the minute the cart opens, and every shopper who comments "link?" expects an answer before the impulse fades. ReelDrop publishes the drop on the minute and sends the product link by DM automatically, all day and all night.

What ReelDrop does for ecommerce

For an ecommerce brand the Instagram DM is the shortest path between a shopper seeing a product and reaching a checkout page. The job has two parts. The first is timing: the drop post has to publish at the exact minute the cart opens, not whenever someone is free to press post. The second is link delivery at volume, because a good product reel produces hundreds of comments asking where to buy, and every hour between the comment and the link is measurable lost revenue. ReelDrop schedules the drop to the minute through the official Instagram API and runs the keyword automation that sends the product link, with a timed follow-up for the shoppers who opened the link and did not buy. It is Instagram only, so it sits next to your email and ads stack rather than replacing it.

The problems this solves

Schedule the drop to the exact minute

Build the launch post ahead of time, with the reel cover chosen rather than left to chance, and schedule it for the minute the product goes live. ReelDrop publishes through the official Instagram API, so the announcement is not waiting on whoever is holding the phone.

First-comment scheduling puts the sizing notes, the shipping cut-off or the hashtag set into the first comment automatically, which keeps the caption clean and the details where people look for them. It is included from the Influencer plan up.

Schedule the supporting content in the same sitting: the teaser two days before, the restock reminder, the last-chance post the night the cart closes. A drop is a sequence, and the sequence is what the calendar is for.

Answer "link?" before the impulse fades

Attach a keyword automation to the drop post before it publishes. A shopper comments LINK, ReelDrop replies publicly so the next shopper sees the keyword works, and sends the product link by DM within moments. It performs identically at 2 pm and 2 am, which matters most if a meaningful share of your customers are in a timezone where you are asleep.

Leave follow verification off on a drop post. A shopper with a card in their hand should not be asked to follow you before they can reach the product page. The follow gate is worth switching on for a giveaway or an early-access list, where the trade is explicit.

Write several variants of the DM. At a few hundred sends, byte-identical messages are what platforms treat as spam, and variants cost you one extra minute in the composer.

The follow-up is your cart recovery on Instagram

Set a timed follow-up two to three hours after the first message. It goes to the people who received the link and did not come back, and it is the closest thing Instagram has to an abandoned cart email, except it lands in a channel with far higher open rates and no deliverability problem.

Keep it short and give one piece of new information: how long the drop runs, what is nearly gone, that a size is back. A follow-up that repeats the first message word for word is just a second notification.

Running more than one account

Regional accounts, an outlet account, a second brand: the Creator plan covers up to 5 Instagram accounts, each in its own workspace, with the AI carousel image allowance shared across them. That is one subscription rather than one per market.

What does not exist yet is multi-user access with approval sign-off, so if several people need their own logins and a draft has to be approved before publishing, that is on the roadmap and not something to plan around today.

An automation recipe for ecommerce

No follow gate on a drop post: putting a follow between a shopper and a checkout page costs more in orders than it gains in followers. The DM names the product and gives the deadline, because urgency in the message converts better than urgency in the caption nobody re-reads. Three hours on the follow-up puts a second, shorter nudge in front of the people who clicked and did not buy, while the drop is still live. Use a different keyword per drop (SPRING, RESTOCK) so your analytics tell you which post sent the traffic.

Frequently asked questions

Is comment-to-DM automation allowed?

Yes, through the official Instagram API, which is the route ReelDrop uses. Your professional account connects with Meta's own login and messages go out through the Messenger API for Instagram. The conditions are Meta's: the shopper has to have contacted you first, which commenting does, and per-account send limits apply.

Can the automated DM carry a product link with UTM tags?

Yes. The link is whatever you paste, tags included, so the traffic shows up correctly in your analytics. Using a different keyword per drop is the simplest way to attribute revenue to a specific post without touching the link itself.

What happens when a drop post gets thousands of comments at once?

The automation queues and sends within the rate Meta allows for your account, so a very large spike is delivered over a longer window rather than all in one burst. That limit belongs to the Instagram account rather than the ReelDrop plan, and it grows with the account.

Can we publish exactly when the cart opens?

Yes. You pick the date and time and ReelDrop publishes at that moment through the official Instagram API, without anyone needing to be at a phone. Reels, carousels and single posts all schedule the same way, and the reel cover is chosen in advance.

We run three regional accounts. Which plan covers that?

The Creator plan at $29/month, with founding pricing at $149/year or $249 once for life (India: ₹2,699/month or ₹13,999/year) covers up to 5 Instagram accounts, each in its own workspace. Separate logins per team member and approval sign-off before publishing are on the roadmap rather than shipped, so today a workspace is shared by whoever has the account.
