Connect ChatGPT to ReelDrop
ChatGPT connects to ReelDrop as a custom MCP plugin. Paste the server URL under Plugins, sign in with your ReelDrop account when ChatGPT asks, and pick ReelDrop with @ in a chat. There is no API key. You add it on chatgpt.com on the web; which ChatGPT plans can use it is set by OpenAI, and is listed below.

Before you start
- An Influencer or Creator plan on ReelDrop. On the free Starter plan the connection succeeds but every tool says the feature is not included.
- A ReelDrop workspace with an Instagram account connected.
- A ChatGPT plan that allows custom MCP servers. Business, Enterprise and Edu get full access, including tools that schedule and change things; on Business only owners and admins can create the plugin, and on Enterprise and Edu an admin can let members do it. Pro can connect custom servers with read and fetch access only, so ReelDrop’s reports work there but scheduling does not. OpenAI does not list Plus or Free.

Step 1: Copy the server URL
The URL is the same for everyone:

On chatgpt.com, open Plugins, click the + button and choose Add custom MCP server. Name it ReelDrop, paste the URL under Connection, and leave authentication on OAuth. Developer mode is no longer needed for this.
Tick I understand and want to continue, then Create as a plugin. ChatGPT lists the tools it found before you install.
Step 3: Sign in with your ReelDrop account
Install the plugin and ChatGPT sends you to ReelDrop's sign-in page. Log in with your normal ReelDrop account and approve. ChatGPT registers itself automatically, so there is no client ID or secret to fill in.
Step 4: Use it in a chat
Start a new chat, type @ and pick ReelDrop. ChatGPT asks you to confirm before any tool that schedules, changes or deletes something, so a write never happens silently.
Step 5: Run the first-run checklist
Ask these four things in a new chat. All of them only read, so nothing changes on your account, and each answer proves a different part of the connection works:
- "List my ReelDrop workspaces." Your real workspace names come back, not a guess.
- "Which Instagram account is connected to that workspace, and is the connection healthy?"
- "How much of my plan have I used this month?" On the free Starter plan, this is where the upgrade reply shows up instead.
- "When is my next open posting slot?" If no posting schedule is saved yet, it asks for your timezone once and saves it to the workspace.
What is different in ChatGPT
ChatGPT sees 56 of ReelDrop's 58 tools. The two it does not get hand back an upload link that the client has to send a file to, which ChatGPT cannot do. So in ChatGPT, share the video or image as a link anyone can open (a Google Drive file shared with the link works) rather than attaching it from your computer.
Where a feature is not on your ReelDrop plan, the tool says so and links the pricing page; it does not try to sell you anything inside ChatGPT.
If it asks for an API key
ChatGPT should never ask you for an API key, a client ID or a bearer token for ReelDrop. If it does, it is pointed at the wrong address: check that the URL is exactly https://mcp.reeldrop.io/mcp, with /mcp on the end. The only client that uses a token is Meta Muse, because it has no browser to sign in with.
Disconnect
Open Settings → Plugins, select ReelDrop, open the ••• menu and choose Disconnect. Uninstalling the plugin disconnects it too. Posts already scheduled keep publishing, because they belong to your ReelDrop account, not to the connection.
ReelDrop is also listed on Smithery and in the official MCP registry as io.reeldrop/reeldrop, so clients that browse either can find the server without you pasting the URL.
Frequently asked questions
Do I still need developer mode?
No. Custom MCP servers are added under Plugins now. The older Apps → Create path still exists in ChatGPT, labelled Legacy, and the same server URL works there.
Can I use it on ChatGPT Plus?
OpenAI lists custom MCP servers for Business, Enterprise and Edu, and read-only access for Pro. Plus and Free are not on that list, so check Plugins in your own account: if there is no Add custom MCP server option, your plan does not have it.
Does it work in the ChatGPT mobile app?
You add the server on the web. OpenAI says custom MCP servers cannot be added from mobile.
Will ChatGPT post without asking?
No. ChatGPT asks you to confirm every tool that changes something, and ReelDrop itself requires a caption you have seen and a cover choice before it books a reel.
