Connect VS Code or Windsurf to ReelDrop
In VS Code, add ReelDrop as an HTTP MCP server and Copilot's agent can use its tools after you sign in with your ReelDrop account. Windsurf, which became Devin Desktop in June 2026, takes the same URL in its MCP config. Neither needs an API key.

Before you start
- An Influencer or Creator plan on ReelDrop. On the free Starter plan the connection succeeds but every tool answers with an upgrade prompt.
- A ReelDrop workspace with an Instagram account connected.
- VS Code with GitHub Copilot (Free, Pro, Pro+ and Max all include MCP servers; on Copilot Business and Enterprise an admin has to turn on the MCP servers policy first), or Devin Desktop.
Step 1: VS Code: add the server
Open the Command Palette and run MCP: Add Server. Choose HTTP, paste the server URL, name it reeldrop, and pick Global so it works in every workspace. Or add it to your user
mcp.json, or to.vscode/mcp.jsonfor one workspace:mcp.json
{ "servers": { "reeldrop": { "type": "http", "url": "https://mcp.reeldrop.io/mcp" } } }Step 2: VS Code: trust it and sign in
VS Code asks you to trust the server, then to allow it to sign in. Allow it, log in to ReelDrop in the browser and approve. VS Code registers itself automatically; there is no client ID to enter.
To check it, run MCP: List Servers: reeldrop should be running. In the Chat view, switch to Agent and open the tools picker to see its tools.
Step 3: Windsurf (Devin Desktop): add the server
Devin Desktop keeps MCP servers in
~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json, the same file its command line uses. The quickest route is the command line, which ships with the app:terminal
devin mcp add -s user reeldrop https://mcp.reeldrop.io/mcpterminal
devin mcp login reeldropStep 4: Windsurf (Devin Desktop): sign in
devin mcp loginopens the browser for the ReelDrop sign-in. In the app, reeldrop shows Needs auth with an Authenticate button instead; click it and approve in the browser. Once signed in, the server lists its tools in the MCPs panel.Step 5: Run the first-run checklist
Ask these four things in a new chat. All of them only read, so nothing changes on your account, and each answer proves a different part of the connection works:
- "List my ReelDrop workspaces." Your real workspace names come back, not a guess.
- "Which Instagram account is connected to that workspace, and is the connection healthy?"
- "How much of my plan have I used this month?" On the free Starter plan, this is where the upgrade reply shows up instead.
- "When is my next open posting slot?" If no posting schedule is saved yet, it asks for your timezone once and saves it to the workspace.
If it asks for an API key
VS Code or Devin Desktop should never ask you for an API key, a client ID or a bearer token for ReelDrop. If it does, it is pointed at the wrong address: check that the URL is exactly https://mcp.reeldrop.io/mcp, with /mcp on the end. The only client that uses a token is Meta Muse, because it has no browser to sign in with.
Too many tools?
ReelDrop has 58 tools. VS Code sends at most 128 tools per request and Cascade, Windsurf's older agent, at most 100, counted across every server you have turned on. If you hit the limit, turn off the tools or servers you are not using in the tools picker.
Disconnect
VS Code: remove the server from mcp.json or from the server list, then run Authentication: Remove Dynamic Authentication Providers, or sign out of mcp.reeldrop.io in the Accounts menu. Devin Desktop: devin mcp logout reeldrop removes the sign-in and devin mcp remove reeldrop the server. Posts already scheduled keep publishing.
ReelDrop is also listed on Smithery and in the official MCP registry as io.reeldrop/reeldrop, so clients that browse either can find the server without you pasting the URL.
Frequently asked questions
Is Windsurf still a thing?
Windsurf became Devin Desktop on 2 June 2026, and its docs moved to docs.devin.ai. The MCP setup carries over: the same server URL, the same sign-in.
My older Windsurf config uses serverUrl. Is that wrong?
No. Cascade reads `serverUrl` or `url` for a remote server, and the Devin command line writes `url`. Either points at the same address.
Which VS Code config format should I use?
The `servers` format in `mcp.json` shown above still works. VS Code also reads a portable `mcpServers` format in `~/.copilot/mcp-config.json`; MCP: Add Server picks the right file for you.
