How we evaluated these tools

We compared seven tools on five things: whether DMs go out through Instagram's official API, whether pricing is published, what the free plan actually includes, whether a follow gate is on it, and what the plan meters. Every price comes from the vendor's own pricing page unless a link says otherwise. We did not run live campaigns on all seven, so read this as a pricing and feature comparison, not a speed test.

Best free option: Zorcha. Unlimited DMs and automations with a follow gate is more than any other free plan here gives you.

ManyChat alternatives compared

ManyChat is in the first row for reference. Free-plan numbers for most tools were cross-checked against a 17 October 2026 roundup.

"Not stated" means the vendor does not publish the answer, not that the feature is missing. On ReelDrop's free plan, the first DM of each automated conversation ends with a short "Sent via reeldrop.io" line.

Why creators leave ManyChat

ManyChat counts active contacts, which means anyone who exchanges a message with you in the billing month. Under the plans it introduced on 2 March 2026, Free covers 25 contacts, Essential 250, Pro 2,500 and Business 7,500, per ManyChat's help center. Billed yearly, Essential is $14 a month, Pro $29 and Business $69. Month to month they are $17, $39 and $99, according to a pricing breakdown.

Four things push people out:

• The free plan is small. 25 active contacts is a test account, not something you can run a channel on.
• Overage is per contact. Past the included pool you pay $0.10 per extra contact on Essential, $0.05 on Pro and $0.025 on Business on monthly billing (same breakdown).
• The tiers cross over awkwardly. Essential plus overage costs more than Pro above roughly 470 contacts, and Pro plus overage costs more than Business above roughly 3,700 (same breakdown).
• Old and new accounts see different price lists. ManyChat says the new plans apply to accounts created on or after 2 March 2026, and older accounts cannot switch yet (help center).

Then there is the opinion part. If all you do is send a link to people who comment a keyword, you are paying for a flow builder you rarely open. The prices above are not opinion.

What one viral Reel costs on each tool

Here is one Reel run through every tool. Assume 4,000 different people comment your keyword in a single month and each gets one DM. A follow-up message would raise the count on tools that meter DMs. We worked these out from the published plans in the table above.

ManyChat's Pro plan plus overage would run about $114 for the same month, which is why Business is the cheaper choice at that size. The alternatives land between $0 and $19. At 4,000 contacts the meter matters more than the plan name.

The alternatives in detail

Zorcha, if you want no ceiling on the free plan

Zorcha's free plan runs unlimited DMs, unlimited automations and unlimited saved contacts, per its own page. Its feature list includes "Ask for Follow," which is its name for a follow gate. For a creator who only needs comment-to-DM with a follow check, this is the strongest free replacement for ManyChat we found.

Starting price: free. Pro is $14.99 a month, or $9.99 a month billed yearly (pricing page), and holds personalised DMs, follow-up flows, replaying old comments and email or phone capture (roundup). Trade-off: analytics on free are basic, and one review reports an 8% fee on digital product sales (ReplyRep), which only matters if you sell through Zorcha.

Account safety: Zorcha says it uses Meta's official API integration (its August 2026 press release). That is a vendor claim, and the check in the safety section works on any tool.

ReelDrop, if you also schedule your Reels

ReelDrop is our product, so read this section with that in mind. The free plan has 5 active DM automations with no monthly limit on DMs sent, plus unlimited Reels and post scheduling, and it never asks for a card. You attach the DM automation to the Reel while you schedule it, so it is live the moment the post goes out.

Influencer adds unlimited automations, story-reply and DM-keyword triggers, comments on posts and carousels, and a follow gate that asks the Instagram API whether the commenter really follows you. It also removes the "Sent via reeldrop.io" line and includes MCP access, so you can edit automations from Claude. At $9.99 a month it undercuts ManyChat's paid entry plan.

InstantDM, if you want automation plus extras under $15

InstantDM's free plan covers 500 DM automations a month across up to 5 posts. Legend Pro, at $12 a month or $9.99 billed yearly, removes the monthly cap (paced up to 800 an hour), adds story, Live and DM-keyword triggers, the follow-before-link gate, email capture and post scheduling (pricing, hourly limits).

Trade-off: the free plan has no follow gate and no story or DM-keyword triggers, and 800 an hour is a real throttle on a big Reel. Account safety: InstantDM calls itself an official Meta Business Partner on its comparison pages. We could not match that against a Meta directory, so apply the same check.

ReplyRush, if you need a big free DM number

ReplyRush gives 1,500 DMs a month free, but its free plan no longer includes Comment Auto Reply or the follow gate. Both need Lite at $10 a month, which also raises the allowance to 7,500 DMs, and Boost is $25 for 40,000 (ReplyRush). In practice that makes ReplyRush a $10 tool for comment-to-DM.

Trade-off: the DM allowance is a hard meter, and a rival's comparison page says app branding stays on DMs until Boost, so check that on ReplyRush's own pricing page. Account safety: partner status is not something we verified.

LinkToDM, if you run more than one account

LinkToDM's free plan covers 2,000 DMs a month across 3 creator accounts, with a follow gate included as of our 17 October check. Pro is $15 a month, or $10 a month billed yearly, for unlimited DMs. Starting price: free.

Trade-off: its pricing page uses "DMs" and "contacts" for the same limit, and it contradicts itself on free-plan account counts in places, so confirm what counts inside the dashboard before you move a busy account. Account safety: partner status not verified.

CreatorFlow, if you want flat message tiers

CreatorFlow's free plan is the smallest here at 500 DMs a month, though story-reply automation is included. Pro, at $15 a month or $12 billed yearly, adds the follow gate and 5,000 DMs across 2 accounts (CreatorFlow).

Trade-off: its own older comparison pages still show different limits, so read the live pricing page. Account safety: it calls itself a Meta-Approved Partner, a label we did not verify.

LinkDM, if you work link-in-bio or affiliate funnels

LinkDM gives 1,000 DMs a month on one account, with story auto-reply on the free plan. Pro is $19 a month for 25,000 DMs and 3 accounts, as reported on InstantDM's comparison page.

Trade-off: its pricing pages do not document a follow gate. Account safety: partner status not verified.

Are these tools safe for your account

Tools built on Meta's official API send you to Instagram's own login and permission screen, and they never see your password. That is the one check that matters most. A tool that asks you to type your Instagram password into its own form is the one to avoid.

There is also a timing rule. Meta's messaging policy gives businesses up to 24 hours to respond after a person's action, and automated messages have to fit inside that window (Meta policy).
